The CITB SSSTS Course runs over two days of six hours each (12h total), which can be completed over 2 consecutive days or 1 day per week over 2 weeks.

This course is designed for current supervisors or those looking to move into a supervisory role, including first line managers, foremen, gangers and team leaders. It is an ideal foundation for obtaining a basic understanding of Health & Safety duties and responsibilities for junior management.

Over the two days, the course will advise delegates of the Health & Safety responsibilities they will acquire when supervising staff on a construction site, their legal duties and what will be expected of them.

As a fully accredited CITB training provider, topics covered during our course include:

• Health and Safety law.
• Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
• Environmental awareness, pollution and waste management.
• Hazardous substances.
• Accident prevention and control.
• Awareness of other regulations.
• Approved codes of practice and guidance notes.
• Work at height.
• Demolition noise and vibration.
• Occupational health.
• Fire prevention and control.
• Plant and equipment.
• Managing contractors.
• Electricity on sites.
• Confined spaces.

By the end of the two days, delegates will be able to:

• Understand problems within the construction industry.
• Understanding of how Health & Safety law is structured and how it applies to Supervisors.
• Identify how their supervisory role fits in with the management structure in controlling the site safely.
• Carry out risk assessments and understanding the need for method statements.
• Carry out effective site inductions, toolbox talks and task briefings.
• Be able to monitor site activities effectively.
• Understand the importance of timely intervention when bad practice is identified.

Throughout the course, our CITB-accredited instructor will monitor and assess exercises and individual participation. On day two of the course, all delegates will take a CITB multiple-choice questionnaire.

Upon successful completion of this course, a renewable, five-year CITB Site Supervision Safety Training certificate will be awarded to delegates. To renew their certificate, trainees will be required to attend our SSSTS Refresher training before their certificate expires.

Upon successful completion of this course and after gaining valuable site experience in a supervisory role, the natural progression would be the five-day Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course.

Existing Site Managers, Agents, Surveyors and persons holding positions of managerial control should attend the five-day SMSTS course.
